Historical Society and Museum
Lee’s Summit Historical Society and Museum is located on SW Main Street in Downtown Lee’s Summit. Built within the vintage and antique 1939 WPA Post Office building, you will find a number of historic artifacts dating back to the early years of Lee’s Summit. Admission to the museum is free and is open from 10 am to 2 pm Thursday and Friday as well as from 10 am to 4 pm on Saturdays. Step back in time to the 1800s at Lee’s Summit Missouri Town 1855. Located at Lake Jacomo, this glimpse of historic life depicts a normaly day in 1855 in a progressive farming community with authentic furnishings, equipment, crops, and rare livestock breeds. Missouri Town 1855 encompasses about 30 acres and is home to more than 25 buildings dating from 1820-1860. Enjoy a self-guided tour of the property or sign up for a guided tour by a professional living history interpreter.
Paradise Park on NE Colbern Road in Lee’s Summit is a great way to spend a day with friends and family year-round. Paradise Park features 15 acres and more than 17 outdoor and indoor attractions that range from escape rooms and laser tag to mini-golf and go-karts. It offers the “Discovery Play Center” for children ages 7 and under and has a variety of attractions that have a fun, educational capacity. Paradise Park hosts events throughout the year and is also available for private parties.
On hot summer days, you will find residents and visitors at Summit Waves. Summit Waves is a family-friendly outdoor aquatic center at Harris Park with tons of ways to cool off in the Missouri summer heat. Open from late May - August, Summit Waves offers day passes as well as season passes.
The Historic Longview Mansion was built in 1914 by Kansas City millionaire Robert A. Long and was the largest construction project of its kind in the country. Legacy Park spans more than 700 acres and includes three shelters,12 baseball fields, 6 softball fields, and 8 soccer fields as well as a 45,000 square foot Community Center complete with meeting rooms, fitness center, recreational pool and more. Legacy Park is also home to a 22 acre lake, disc golf course, amphitheater and a nearly 5 mile trail. Really a sports and recreation haven for Kansas City, Legacy Park is a well known and enjoyable outing for anyone.
Lee’s Summit Schools
Lee’s Summit schools are highly regarded in the area. Longview Community College, part of the Metropolitan Community College (Kansas City), calls the western edge of Lee’s Summit home. Lee’s Summit is also home to the Summit Technology Center – a branch of the University of Central Missouri. There is also a branch of Baker University located in Lee’s Summit.
