Lee’s Summit History Museum is located in the 1939 Post Office building on SW Main Street in Lee’s Summit. You will find a number of historic artifacts dating back to the early years of Lee’s Summit at the museum. Admission to the museum is free and they are open from 10 am to 2 pm Thursday and Friday as well as from 10 am to 4 pm on Saturdays. Whether you are a lifelong resident of Lee’s Summit or a newcomer, you will certainly learn something interesting about Lee’s Summit at the Lee’s Summit History Museum.
Step back in time to the 1800s at Lee’s Summit Missouri Town 1855. Located at Lake Jacomo, Missouri Town 1855 depicts life in a progressive farming community with authentic furnishings, equipment, crops, and rare livestock breeds. Missouri Town 1855 encompasses about 30 acres and is home to more than 25 buildings dating from 1820-1860. Enjoy a self-guided tour of the property or sign up for a guided tour by a professional living history interpreter.
Paradise Park on NE Colbern Road in Lee’s Summit is a great way to spend a day with friends and family year-round. Paradise Park features 15 acres and more than 17 outdoor and indoor attractions that range from escape rooms and laser tag to mini-golf and go-karts. Paradise Park offers the “Discovery Play Center” for those with children aged 7 and under that has a variety of attractions that have a fun, educational twist. The Historic Longview Mansion was built in 1914 by Kansas City millionaire Robert A. Long and was the largest construction project of its kind in the country. Recently renovated in 2018, the sprawling mansion was restored to its original splendor. Longview Mansion is a popular location for weddings and special events. Lea McKeighan Park is a renovated park on the south side of Chipman Road. The park features a walking trail that runs for more than half a mile as well as the Jupiter XXL Jungle Gym, Speedway Zip Line and more. Whether you are looking to get your heart rate pumping or just enjoy a relaxing picnic by the fountains, Lea McKeighan Park is a lovely part of life in Lee’s Summit.
Legacy Park spans more than 700 acres and includes three shelters,12 baseball fields, 6 softball fields, and 8 soccer fields as well as a 45,000 square foot Community Center complete with meeting rooms, fitness center, recreational pool and more. Legacy Park is also home to a 22 acre lake, disc golf course, amphitheater and a nearly 5 mile trail.
Lee’s Summit Schools
Lee’s Summit schools are highly regarded in the area. Students from elementary through high school regularly win academic competitions at the district and state level in areas such as math and foreign language to technology and industrial arts – and just about everything in between.
More than 500 Lee’s Summit high school students are recognized for their academic achievement each year. Approximately 81% of Lee’s Summit graduates attend college.
In addition to the outstanding public schools, Lee’s Summit is also home to a handful of religious private schools.
Longview Community College, part of the Metropolitan Community College (Kansas City), calls the western edge of Lee’s Summit home. Lee’s Summit is also home to the Summit Technology Center – a branch of the University of Central Missouri. There is also a branch of Baker University located in Lee’s Summit.
